GLM API in Taiwan: How to Use It
The GLM series from Zhipu AI is one of the open- and closed-source models whose value for money is often discussed right now. Its international brand is Z.ai. This article covers three things: how to use it, how much it costs, and whether you can get a Taiwan unified invoice for it.
Two Platforms: Know the Difference
open.bigmodel.cn (China platform) = Targets the China market, priced in renminbi, issues Chinese mainland invoices
Z.ai / api.z.ai (international platform) = Targets overseas markets, priced in US dollars
Taiwanese users should use the international platform. The China platform has an "invoice application" feature in its documentation, but that is a Chinese mainland electronic invoice, not a Taiwan unified invoice. The two are entirely different document systems and cannot replace each other.
How Pricing Works
According to Zhipu's official pricing (checked September 2, 2026), the GLM-5 series costs about 1 to 1.4 US dollars per million input tokens and about 3 to 4.4 for output. GLM-4.6 is cheaper, at about 0.43 US dollars for input and 1.75 for output. GLM also offers several versions to choose from, including the vision version GLM-4.5v.
A compatible API platform lets you call these with the same key:
| GLM versions on BazaarLink | Use |
|---|---|
| glm-5.3 / glm-5.2 | Latest flagship, ultra-long context (1.31M tokens) |
| glm-5 / glm-5-turbo | General conversation and reasoning |
| glm-4.6 / glm-4.5 | Lower-cost, stable versions |
| glm-4.5v | Vision understanding |

Can You Get a Taiwan Unified Invoice for GLM?
As of the check date, no official explanation could be found.
Zhipu's international platform documentation does not mention Taiwan unified invoices (GUI) or eGUI. The China platform does have an "invoice application" feature, but it issues Chinese mainland invoices, which a Taiwan company cannot use for tax filing or accounting.
If your company requires a Taiwan unified invoice before an expense can be booked, neither of the official channels can currently be confirmed to provide one.
Can the GLM Unified Business Number Be Entered? What About Expense Reports?
The Ministry of Finance publishes a public list, "Foreign e-commerce operators that have issued cloud invoices," which contains every foreign company that has completed Taiwan cross-border e-commerce tax registration (340 companies in total). Checked line by line on September 2, 2026, Zhipu / Z.ai is not on the list. This is not just "the official documentation doesn't say so"; Zhipu has not completed tax registration in Taiwan at all, so the checkout page has no Taiwan unified business number field, and there is no statutory obligation to collect business tax or issue cloud invoices. For comparison, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Alibaba Cloud are all on the list.
What about expense reports? The English receipt you get from paying by card on the official site can serve as internal supporting evidence for an expense. However, most companies' formal expense reporting processes only accept unified invoices: an English receipt cannot be used to deduct business tax, and it may not pass expense approval review. If your company requires a unified invoice for expense reports, go with Option 2 in the next section and buy through a Taiwan-based platform, which will issue an electronic unified invoice from a Taiwan company (with a business number; both two-part and three-part formats are available).
So What Should You Do?
Option 1: Pay Directly on the Official International Platform by Card
The drawbacks are similar to other overseas services: card risk controls, no confirmed unified invoice, and exchange rate spreads and fees.
Option 2: A Taiwan-Based API Platform
BazaarLink is an AI API platform operated by a Taiwan company (Jilian Technology Co., Ltd., unified business number 62232477):
- Pricing in Taiwan dollars, with electronic unified invoices issued (both two-part and three-part formats), so accounting can book them directly
- OpenAI-compatible API, with one key shared across GLM, Claude, GPT, Gemini, and more
- Monthly corporate billing can be arranged
curl https://bazaarlink.ai/api/v1/chat/completions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer sk-bl-YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model": "z-ai/glm-5", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}]}'
But be clear about when this is not a good fit:
- If you already have an account on the China platform and a Chinese mainland invoice system works for you → just use the official China platform directly
- If you are just testing and your usage is very small → paying directly on the official site is fine
- If you have confirmed through another channel that Zhipu can issue a Taiwan unified invoice → follow the official reply you received

FAQ
What are GLM's advantages compared with Claude and GPT?
GLM is often discussed for its price: at a comparable performance level, its per-token price is usually considerably lower than that of leading US models. Whether it suits you depends on your task type and quality requirements, so it is best to start with a small-scale test.
Is the GLM Coding Plan the same thing as the API?
No. The GLM Coding Plan is a fixed-allowance subscription for tools such as Claude Code and Cursor; the API is billed per token and is for calling the model from your own code. The billing methods differ, so confirm which one you need before choosing.
Can I enter a GLM unified business number?
No, it can't be entered. According to the Ministry of Finance list of 'foreign e-commerce operators that have issued cloud invoices' (checked September 2, 2026), Zhipu (Z.ai) has not completed cross-border e-commerce tax registration in Taiwan, so the international platform's checkout has no Taiwan unified business number field. The 'invoice application' on the China platform issues Chinese mainland invoices, which have nothing to do with a Taiwan unified business number. To get a unified invoice with a business number, you need to buy through a Taiwan-based platform.
Can a GLM receipt be used for expense reporting?
Only as internal supporting evidence for an expense. An English receipt from the international platform is not a unified invoice, so it cannot be used to deduct business tax; and Taiwan accounting cannot book a Chinese mainland invoice from the China platform either. If you need to file an expense report, use a Taiwan-based platform that can issue a unified invoice from a Taiwan company.
