Kimi API in Taiwan: Usage, Costs and Tax Invoices

Kimi API in Taiwan: international vs China versions, how costs work, whether a Taiwan unified invoice is available, and three purchasing options compared.

Query date: 2026-09-02 (Taipei time). Policies change. This article marks the source and query date for every judgment. Before purchasing, follow what your account's checkout page actually shows.

How to Use Kimi API in Taiwan?

Moonshot AI's Kimi series (K2, K3) has earned good reviews for long-context and coding tasks, and Taiwanese developers evaluating the Kimi API search for it considerably. This article covers: how to use it, how much it costs, and whether a Taiwan unified invoice is available.

Kimi API vs Kimi Subscription: Know the Difference First

Kimi subscription (Kimi+ and other plans) = access to the web and app
Kimi API = calling the model in your own program, billed per token

Moonshot's official documentation explains that API billing and membership plans are two separate systems. The API is entirely pay-per-usage and is a different product from the fixed monthly fee of a subscription.

International vs China Version: Different Channels

Moonshot has two platforms. api.moonshot.ai is the international version, priced in US dollars. platform.moonshot.cn is the China version, priced in renminbi. The rates differ and the accounts are not shared. Taiwan users should use the international version, but the official international documentation currently does not mention invoices or tax details. It only states that "taxes are calculated at checkout based on your jurisdiction," with no further explanation of how Taiwan is handled.

How Costs Are Calculated

According to Moonshot's official pricing (query date 2026-09-02), Kimi K3 costs about US$3 per million input tokens and about US$15 per million output tokens. K2.6 and K2.7-code cost about US$0.95 per million input tokens and about US$4 output. Older K2-series versions are cheaper still. Actual unit prices vary by version and by whether caching is included.

Through a compatible API platform, you can call the models with the same set of keys without opening a separate Moonshot account:

Kimi version on BazaarLinkPurpose
kimi-k3Latest flagship version, 1.04 million token context
kimi-k2.7-codeOptimized for programming tasks
kimi-k2.6 / k2.5General conversation and reasoning
kimi-k2-thinkingReasoning mode
kimi-k2-0905Earlier version, lower cost

New Taiwan dollar unit prices are updated daily with the exchange rate. For actual figures, see the model list.

Can Kimi Issue a Unified Invoice in Taiwan?

As of the query date, no official explanation could be found.

Moonshot's international version (api.moonshot.ai) official pricing and billing documentation does not mention Taiwan unified invoices (GUI), eGUI, or any Taiwan-specific tax handling. It only has the single line "taxes are calculated by jurisdiction." Compared with OpenAI's dedicated page that states "Taiwan VAT and eGUI," the gap is obvious.

If your company requires a unified invoice before expenses can be booked, do not assume Moonshot can provide one until you have confirmed it.

Can I Enter a Unified Business Number for Kimi? What About Expense Reporting?

The Ministry of Finance publishes a public list, "Offshore e-commerce providers that have issued cloud invoices", which covers all offshore companies that have completed Taiwan cross-border e-commerce tax registration (340 in total). Checking the list entry by entry as of the query date 2026-09-02, Moonshot AI is not on it. This is not merely "the official documentation doesn't say"; it has not completed tax registration in Taiwan at all. As a result, the checkout page has no Taiwan unified business number field, and there is no statutory obligation to collect business tax or issue cloud invoices. For comparison, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and Alibaba Cloud are all on the list.

What about expense reporting? The English receipt from an official card payment can serve as internal supporting evidence for expenses. However, most companies' formal reporting processes only accept unified invoices. English receipts cannot be used to offset business tax, and they may not pass expense review. If your company's expense reporting requires a unified invoice, purchase through a Taiwan-based platform as described in "Option 2" in the next section. A Taiwan company issues an electronic unified invoice there (a business number can be entered; both two-part and three-part forms are available).

So What Should I Do?

Option 1: Pay Directly with the Official Service (International Version)

Drawbacks are similar to other overseas services: credit card risk controls, uncertain unified invoices, and exchange rate spreads and fees.

Option 2: Taiwan-Based API Platform

BazaarLink is an AI API platform operated by a Taiwan company, 集聯科技有限公司 (Jilian Technology Co., Ltd., unified business number 62232477):

  • Priced in New Taiwan dollars, issues electronic unified invoices (two-part and three-part forms both available), so accounting can book it directly
  • OpenAI-compatible API; Kimi, Claude, GPT, Gemini and others share one set of keys
  • Monthly billing for enterprises can be arranged
  • Compatible with development tools such as Codex CLI, Cursor and Claude Code
curl https://bazaarlink.ai/api/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-bl-YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model": "moonshotai/kimi-k3", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}]}'

But be clear about when this is not a good fit:

  • You want the Kimi web version or the membership features inside the app → that is a subscription product, which the API cannot replace
  • You are only testing and your usage is very small → paying directly on the official site is fine
  • You have already confirmed through another channel that Moonshot can issue a Taiwan unified invoice → go by the official reply you obtained

FAQ

How do Kimi K2 and K3 differ?

K3 is the newer flagship version, with a context length and pricing both one tier above the K2 series. K2.7-code is tuned for programming tasks. For general development, K2.6 or K2.7-code usually offers better value, but it depends on your task type.

Can the China version and the international version share an account?

No. The two platforms are separate accounts and billing systems, with different rates. Using a compatible API platform in Taiwan avoids this choice, so you do not have to decide which side to use yourself.

Can I enter a Taiwan unified business number (統編) at checkout?

No. According to the Ministry of Finance list of offshore e-commerce providers that have issued cloud invoices (checked 2026-09-02), Moonshot AI has not yet completed cross-border e-commerce tax registration in Taiwan, so the international checkout has no Taiwan unified business number field. To get a unified invoice with a business number, purchase Kimi API through a Taiwan-based platform.

Can Kimi receipts be used for expense reporting?

Only as internal supporting evidence for expenses. Moonshot's international version provides English receipts, not unified invoices, so they cannot be used to offset business tax. The China version issues Mainland China invoices, which a Taiwan company also cannot use. For expense reporting, a Taiwan-based platform is recommended, since a Taiwan company can issue a unified invoice with its business number.
