OpenClaw Web Search Setup: Point Tavily at BazaarLink

OpenClaw can use Tavily as its web_search provider and also exposes tavily_search and tavily_extract tools. Its Tavily base URL is configurable, so you can point it at BazaarLink and use one API key for both models and search.

Prerequisites

A BazaarLink API key and OpenClaw installed.

Step 1: install the Tavily plugin

openclaw plugins install @openclaw/tavily-plugin

or run openclaw configure --section web during onboarding.

Step 2: set the key and URL (pick one)

Step 3: select Tavily as the search provider

OpenClaw auto-detects providers in this order: Brave, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, Firecrawl, Tavily. If other search keys are set, set provider: "tavily" explicitly.

Step 4: verify

Ask your agent something time-sensitive ("What is the latest Node.js LTS?"). The answer should include source links, and one search should appear in your BazaarLink usage.

Tools and parameters

tavily_search: query (required), search_depth (basic/advanced), topic (general/news/finance), max_results (1–20), include_answer, time_range, include_domains, exclude_domains. tavily_extract: urls (required, 1–20), query, extract_depth, chunks_per_source (1–5, needs query), include_images. Searches are billed per search (advanced costs more); see the price table, which follows our settings. Failed searches are not charged.

Troubleshooting

Still hitting api.tavily.com: check which config actually loaded and restart OpenClaw. 401: use your BazaarLink key. BazaarLink is an independent service, not operated by Tavily.
