Qwen API in Taiwan: Pricing and Unified Invoice Options

Buying Alibaba Cloud Qwen API in Taiwan: choosing among 40+ versions, cost calculation, unclear official invoice policy, and three purchase options compared.

Checked on: 2026-09-02 (Taipei time). Policies change; every judgment in this article is labeled with its source and check date. Before purchasing, follow what your account's checkout page actually displays.

How to use Qwen API in Taiwan

Alibaba Cloud's Qwen (Tongyi Qianwen) series has a very large number of versions, from lightweight to flagship, including dedicated coder versions. It is currently one of the richest model families to choose from. This article covers: how to use it, how much it costs, and whether you can get a Taiwan unified invoice.

How costs are calculated

According to Alibaba Cloud Model Studio's official pricing (checked on 2026-09-02), Qwen varies widely by version. Lightweight versions can go as low as under US$0.5 per million input tokens, the flagship version (qwen3.8-max) is about US$2, and the dedicated coder versions fall in between. BazaarLink lists more than 40 Qwen versions, the largest selection in the catalog:

Version typeRepresentative versions
Flagship reasoningqwen3.8-max, qwen3.7-max
Long contextqwen3-coder-plus (1 million tokens)
Programmingqwen-2.5-coder-32b-instruct, qwen3-coder-plus

Can Qwen issue a Taiwan unified invoice?

As of the check date, no clear official explanation could be found, and there is one signal worth noting.

Alibaba Cloud's official documentation says the Tax ID (tax identification number) page "adjusts its fields and required documents based on the country or region where your billing account is located," but no specific rules for Taiwan are listed within the scope we checked. At the same time, we found that Alibaba Cloud's Taiwan agents specifically emphasize that "purchasing through an agent can obtain a three-part unified invoice." For a more precise judgment, check the Ministry of Finance registry; the next section has the results: Alibaba Cloud is registered, but the registration obligation only extends to two-part cloud invoices, and three-part invoices still require going through an agent.

If your company must have a Taiwan unified invoice for purchases, we cannot confirm that direct purchase from the official source works, so you need to look for a local channel.

Can I enter a Qwen tax ID? What about expense claims?

The Ministry of Finance publishes a public list of offshore e-commerce operators that have issued cloud invoices, which covers all foreign companies that have completed Taiwan cross-border e-commerce tax registration. When we checked against it on 2026-09-02, Alibaba Cloud (Singapore) Private Limited is on the list, with status "operating" and effective from 2017-05-01, which is different from the situation with Grok, Kimi and GLM, none of which are registered.

However, the scope of the "registered" obligation is collecting 5% business tax from Taiwan individual consumers and issuing two-part cloud invoices. It does not equal the three-part unified invoice that a company can use for deduction in its bookkeeping. Alibaba Cloud's Taiwan agents also state plainly that "buying directly from the official website does not get a three-part invoice," so the conclusion is the same: the Tax ID field can be filled in, but to get a three-part invoice a company can use, you still need to go through a Taiwan agent or a local platform.

What about expense claims? An English receipt from an official card purchase can serve as internal supporting evidence for expenses, but most companies' formal expense claim processes only accept unified invoices. English receipts cannot be used for business tax deduction and may not pass expense review. If your company requires a unified invoice for claims, purchase through a Taiwan local platform as described in "Option 2" in the next section, where a Taiwan company issues an electronic unified invoice (which can carry a tax ID; both two-part and three-part are available).

So what should I do?

Option 1: pay directly by card on the official website

The drawbacks are similar to other overseas services: credit card risk controls, uncertainty about unified invoices, and exchange-rate spreads and fees.

Option 2: a Taiwan local API platform

BazaarLink is an AI API platform operated by a Taiwan company, Jilian Technology Co., Ltd. (tax ID 62232477):

  • Taiwan dollar pricing and electronic unified invoices issued (two-part and three-part both available), so accounting can post them directly
  • OpenAI-compatible API, with one set of keys for Qwen, Claude, GPT, Gemini and others
  • Monthly corporate billing available by arrangement
  • The widest selection of Qwen versions, with more than 40 to choose from

  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-bl-YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model": "qwen/qwen3.8-max", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hello"}]}'

But to be clear about when it is not a good fit:

  • Your company already has an Alibaba Cloud contract and a monthly billing process → using the existing billing channel is simpler
  • You only want to try it out with very low usage → direct card payment on the official site is fine
  • You have already confirmed through another channel that Alibaba Cloud can directly issue a Taiwan unified invoice → follow the official reply you obtained

FAQ

There are so many Qwen versions. How should I choose?

First confirm the task type: a medium-size version is enough for general conversation; choose the coder series for programming; for long-document work, choose a long-context version (such as qwen3-coder-plus with 1 million tokens). If unsure, test with a cheaper version first, and upgrade to the flagship version only if the results are not good enough.

What happens if I don't fill in a Tax ID?

According to Alibaba Cloud's official explanation, purchases without a Tax ID are treated as B2C (general consumer) transactions and may be subject to value-added tax (VAT). To claim VAT relief, you need to upload the corresponding VAT registration certificate.

Can I enter a Qwen tax ID?

Alibaba Cloud Model Studio has a Tax ID field you can fill in, and Alibaba Cloud's Singapore company has been on the Ministry of Finance list of 'offshore e-commerce operators that have issued cloud invoices' since 2017 (checked on 2026-09-02). However, this registration only covers two-part cloud invoices for individual consumers. Buying directly from the official website does not get you a three-part unified invoice for corporate deduction, and Taiwan agents also say so. For a three-part invoice, go through a Taiwan agent or a local platform.

Can I claim Qwen receipts as expenses?

A receipt obtained from a direct official purchase can mostly serve only as internal supporting evidence for expenses. It is not a three-part unified invoice and cannot be used for business tax deduction. For formal expense claims, it is recommended to buy through a Taiwan agent or a local API platform, where a Taiwan company issues a three-part unified invoice that can carry a tax ID.
