ChatGPT Pricing 2026: Plus, Pro, Business and API Costs
Plus is US$20/month, but Pro, Business and API bill separately. Check current prices, estimate API costs with a token formula, and check Taiwan invoices.
ChatGPT Plus is US$20 per month, but that is not the price for every way of using ChatGPT. Website subscriptions, team seats and API usage are billed separately. To know how much you will pay in a month, first decide whether you need the official chat tools or want to connect models to your own programs.
This article checked the official documentation on 2026-09-17. US dollar list prices are not the same as what you pay in Taiwan. Taxes, currency and purchase channel still need to be checked on your account's payment page.
ChatGPT monthly fees: check the plan first, then the conditions
| Option | US dollar price at time of check | What to watch for in your budget |
|---|---|---|
| Free | No monthly subscription fee | Features and usage limits differ from paid plans; it is not API credit |
| Plus | US$20/month, billed monthly | API is billed separately; there is no annual Plus plan |
| Pro | US$100/month; the US$200/month plan has separate purchase restrictions | Do not merge the two Pro levels into one price |
| Business Standard | US$25 per person per month, billed monthly; annual billing works out to US$20 per person per month | A workspace needs at least two paid seats; annual pricing is not a separate monthly payment |
| Business Premium | US$125 per person per month, billed monthly; annual billing works out to US$100 per person per month | Do not estimate all seats using the Standard unit price |
| API | Billed by model and usage | Not included in the Plus or Business subscription |
For how Plus is billed separately from the API, see the official Plus explanation. For the two Business seat types and minimum seat requirements, see the Business FAQ. Local prices for other options such as Go, Enterprise contracts and promotions should be confirmed through quotes in the official account; this table is not a complete price list for every market.
According to the official Pro explanation, starting 2026-09-10, new sign-ups and upgrades to the US$200 Pro plan are paused, but existing subscriptions can renew. If you plan to cancel or downgrade, first confirm whether you can buy it back at the current time; do not treat it as an option you can always re-subscribe to.
What Plus, Business and the API each buy
Plus buys the official ChatGPT interface and the models, tools and usage allowances included in the plan. If you need chat history, projects, files, voice or other official features and do not want to maintain code, compare subscriptions first. You do not need to switch to the API just because of the word "pay-as-you-go."
Business adds workspaces, members and centralized billing management. It is not an API discount package. If your team also needs to call models from a website or internal system, list the API budget separately. Seats come in Standard and Premium types, and you should not estimate every user at the lowest price.
The API is programmatic model calling, suitable for websites, customer service, batch work, agents and multi-model testing. You can record usage for each call and set permissions and budgets, but you also have to handle keys, security, retries and program errors. An API-compatible interface does not mean all features of the official ChatGPT subscription are available.
How API fees are calculated: keep a formula you can substitute into yourself
The following is an illustrative assumption, not a measured average: 50 requests per day, each with 2,000 input tokens and 500 output tokens, for 30 consecutive days.
- Monthly input: 50 × 2,000 × 30 = 3,000,000 tokens.
- Monthly output: 50 × 500 × 30 = 750,000 tokens.
- If the input price is
IUS dollars per million tokens and the output price isOUS dollars, the example usage fee is3 × I + 0.75 × OUS dollars.
Before substituting, check the current model price rather than using the fixed model prices in this article. When calling through BazaarLink, use the customer prices and billing fields in the model catalog; for the original vendor API, check the vendor's list price. Prices from the two channels cannot be mixed directly, and you should not assume every route always has the same price.
This simplified formula does not include caching, separately billed tool fees, retries, taxes, exchange rates or payment fees. For reasoning models, also confirm how reasoning tokens are billed. In long conversations, the history sent each time also counts as input; you cannot count only the sentence you just typed. Without actual records, the result can only be treated as an estimate.
Which uses to check against a subscription first, and which against the API
| Work need | Which side to compare first | How to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Chatting in the official interface every day and using official tools | Subscription | Whether the plan features and allowances cover your work |
| Consistently high usage and wanting easily predictable monthly spending | Compare both subscription and API | Do not infer tokens from hours of use, and do not promise that either side is always cheaper |
| A website, customer service or batch program calling the model | API | Estimate using actual request volume, model prices and retry records |
| Multi-model testing or failover | API | Calculate prices for each model separately, and confirm tool compatibility |
| A company that needs Taiwan invoices and procurement reconciliation | Confirm the transaction channel first | Whether the documents, buyer information and product meet company requirements |
A company can buy both: employees use the official interface, while products or batch work go through the API. When comparing, do not treat one seat's chat allowance as the API usage for the entire system.
Taiwan expense claims: personal card, tax ID and eGUI are three separate things
You cannot say across the board that Plus only has overseas receipts. According to the OpenAI Taiwan VAT and eGUI explanation, when Taiwan VAT is charged, an eGUI is provided. Providing a valid Taiwan VAT ID affects tax treatment, but it does not mean that filling in a tax ID will always produce a VAT-inclusive eGUI. For how to fill in company information and where to find documents, see the OpenAI tax ID and invoice guide.
A personal credit card payment also does not mean the expense can never be claimed. Confirm the actual buyer, business purpose, transaction vouchers, advance-payment requests and company internal controls. Expense recognition and input tax deduction should be judged separately. The AI API expense claim process summarizes the documents to keep.
BazaarLink is provided locally in Taiwan by Jilian Technology Co., Ltd., and can issue two-part or three-part electronic unified invoices to buyers who meet Taiwan transaction requirements. For company purchases, confirm the invoice title, tax ID, purchase channel and invoicing details before payment. This invoice corresponds to the API service purchased from Jilian; it does not turn an official ChatGPT subscription into a transaction of this company.
Finally, look at model usage fees separately from markups and payment-channel fees, and check them against the current model catalog, payment page and billing records. Do not replace total cost with "the API is always cheaper" or "everything has zero markup."
If you want to cancel a subscription first, see ChatGPT and Claude cancellation and refunds. Cancellation and refunds are different, and Taiwan's seven-day right of cancellation cannot be excluded across the board just because the product is labeled "AI subscription."
FAQ
How much is ChatGPT Plus per month?
The official list price I checked on 2026-09-17 is US$20 per month, billed monthly. There is no annual Plus plan. Local checkout currency, tax and purchase channel may affect the amount you actually pay. API fees are calculated separately.
Is ChatGPT Business US$20 per person?
No. Standard billed annually works out to US$20 per person per month; billed monthly it is US$25. Premium billed annually works out to US$100 per person per month; billed monthly it is US$125. A workspace needs at least two paid seats. Confirm the actual payment according to the plan and checkout page.
Does the Plus or Business subscription include API usage?
No. The subscription buys the official product and its plan allowances. Programmatic API calls are billed separately as model usage.
Is the API always cheaper than a ChatGPT subscription?
Not necessarily. First confirm the official features and subscription allowances you need, then substitute your actual input, cached, output, reasoning and tool usage into the current channel unit prices, and compare after adding tax and payment fees.
If I only have overseas receipts for ChatGPT Plus, can I not claim it in Taiwan?
It cannot be generalized that way. OpenAI provides an explanation of Taiwan eGUI for transactions subject to Taiwan VAT. Companies must also confirm buyer information, purpose and the actual vouchers. A personal card payment, expense recognition and input tax deduction are separate questions and must be handled according to the transaction and internal controls.
